We invite you to the opening exhibition of bachelor’s thesis projects by two students of FaVU in Brno. A spatial painting installation and an experimental film come together within the spaces of the Centrum experimentálního divadla, offering an immersion into worlds where uncertainty becomes a refuge and beauty a tool of resistance.

⋆˚꩜⋆˚ Aimee Zia Hasan – Pleasant Uncertainty

Aimee Zia Hasan’s bachelor’s installation brings together large-scale and intimate oil paintings, animated projection, and sound installation into one expansive environment inhabiting the Katakomby spaces of the Centrum experimentálního divadla.

“In my work, I explore the process of grasping and portraying my subconscious through the creation of a hatchery-like atmosphere using sound and visual stimulation,” Aimee describes her practice. At the center of her work are images of eggs and seeds — forms that contain their own internal spaces: corridors, passages, light sources, entrances into the unknown. These fragile yet monumental bodies are not threatening; they radiate a kind of uncertainty that is paradoxically calming. The sound component of the installation — vocals and deep bass reverberations — intensifies the sense of immersion and incubation without strictly directing the viewer. The aim is presence: the ability to remain within the unanswered.

⋆˚꩜⋆˚ Paulína Pinková – With a Clenched Fist, I Caress Your Face

Paulína Pinková’s short experimental film (12 min, Slovak + English subtitles) is an unsettling fairytale about the tension between love and hatred, freedom and repression, individual difference and political pressure. The artist asks: why do we long to caress, yet the hand clenches into a fist? The film consciously draws on Slovak folklore and the traditions of Slovak cinema and literature — while subversively reclaiming and queering their visual language and symbolism. Political protest is concealed beneath layers of beauty: a nonviolent, dreamlike, romanticized form of resistance against the normalization tendencies of the current Slovak government.

🪞 AUTHORSHIP 🪞

Aimee Zia Hasan is a visual artist, painter, and musician originally from London, currently based in Zlín and Brno. She studies in Painting Studio 1 at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology. Working primarily with oil painting, she also enjoys experimenting with a variety of other media and techniques. In her symbolic, almost metaphysical practice, she places emphasis on the sensitive fusion of form and content. Her work explores themes of existence, essence, and organicity, often extending into philosophical dimensions.

Paulína Pinková is a bachelor’s student at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, studying in the Performance Studio. In her multidisciplinary practice, she combines metaphor, poeticism, and a naturalistic visual language within sociopolitical contexts, where she queers symbols and stereotypes. Political realities, nostalgia, and queer existence are among her central themes, while atmosphere and emotional experience often take precedence over a clearly defined narrative line.
